wow. so, caryn just told me that there was this HUGE quake off the coast of thailand. the quake caused huge tidal waves that hit the coasts of indonesia, thailand, and india. tons people along the coasts were killed including lots and lots of tourists. it’s so insane that things like this can happen. just out of the blue. and we just randomly happened to be in egypt right now due to our itinerary… but really, we just as easily could have been in thailand now, or indonesia. it’s all luck. thank god that we are here and not there, is all i can say. it’s insane to see just how much damage a quake can cause.
here are some photos i coppied from the site: www.soieasy.com

I just can’t stop focusing on the white guy on the scooter in the bottom picture. I keep wondering what was on his mind to put that face on him. Was he trying to avoid the photo? That’s the face I make as I run through when I accidentally find myself in someone’s shot. Was he worrying about the power lines over his head? Is it something else we cannot see?
Looks as tho’ he has a pipe in his mouth….the rest is because he was born with that look…..do you think??
I think he’s on a bike or a moped. Looks like a little side mirror off by his hand. Maybe he was going faster than it looks, or was concerned about falling over.

hey vlad and caryn,
wow, the more time passes since the quake, the more the full effect of the devastation unfolds. what a tragedy! dave and i have a friend out in singapore — we just got an emial back from him and he’s okay, thank goodness. singapore’s on the other side of sumatra, so it was protected from the tidal surges.
it’s horrible, though, now all the carcasses are left in the drinking water, etc. it’s going to be very difficult to prevent the spread of disease in sri lanka and phuket and india. these areas don’t have the best sanitation systems anyway, right? what a disaster.
i’m glad to know that you guys are far away from those areas. but, even though none of my friends were hurt tens of thousands have already died, and all of them have friends and families. it’s so sad!
be safe out there,
sharon
