joey hooked up some free tickets to go see john kleese tonight. we went there not really knowing what to expect… stand up? skits? lecture? in the end it was kind of none of the above. they showed some clips from his work (monty python, faulty towers, fish called wanda, etc), and then he was interviewed for a bit. after that he proceeded to spent about 45 minutes talking about his views on religion. his talk was…. ok. some of the points he made about religion were actually really really interesting, but at the same time, other parts of his talk were pretty boring. he excessively quoted and read passages from books that were not very interesting. and then at the end, he started pushing this “Esalen Institute”, which is this place in big sur where they teach mysticism and other new age-ish sounding stuff.
so overall, i’m pretty glad i went, but wasn’t as impressed as i hoped to be. the talk did make me really wanna watch “life of brian”. i’ve never seen it!!
