burnin’ down the house

a little late to be writing this, but i’m gonna post about friday night anyways. the night started off w/ going to Blowfish Sushi w/ caryn to celebrate her birthday. now i’ve been to that place once before and remember it being pretty good, but on friday night, the food was fucking incredible. everything we ordered was the bomb. awesome mojitos, delicious sushi, and this super good ostrich appetizer. now, i haven’t eaten any red meat whatsoever in a long long time (it’ll be 2 years in july), and i *totally* crave it. i practically start drooling every time i see a steak commercial on tv. so eating this ostrich, which tastes pretty damn close to red meat, was sooooooooo good!!!

after dinner we went to check out yan’s house party. it had a “circus sideshow” theme to it and people were supposed to dress up. i totally have a love/hate thing w/ costume parties. i hate dressing up, but i love to watch other people dress up. and also, at parties where everyone dresses up, it always seems like people just get way more wild. so anyways, i did the absolute bare minimum to dress up by wearing a dorky blue hat that cost me 7 bux at a costume shop, caryn brought her old-school harmony crayon costume, and we were on our way.

the party ended up being hella fun. a lot of the people were dressed up and the place was decorated pretty funny w/ powerpuff girl dolls on these fake trapeze things etc. there was one girl who was going to do a fire eating performance. right in the middle of her act, someone accidentally kicked over the fuel and next thing we know, a *huge* section of the room just goes up in flames! it was so crazy!!

yes, that picture was taken *inside* the house. people were scrambling everywhere trying to put out the fire w/ towels etc. the whole room had just lit up. so, it didn’t take them all that long to put the fire out, and i dont think anything in the house really got burnt, it was only the fuel…. but it was still pretty damn exciting!

mail

for some reason i just can’t be fuct to open my mail. none of it. i think it’s been like a month since i opened any mail that’s come in. the ominous pile of envelopes keeps growing and growing. an ever increasing pile of bills, parking tickets, credit card offers, and other assorted junk. every once in a while i actually consider trying to dig through the stack and perhaps even read some of it… but then i always just decide against it.

outta control

saturday night i went to go see “Incredibly Strange Wrestling” again. Last time i went w/ just sharon and although we had a great time, we were pretty sober and just kinda chilled and watched the show for most of the time. this time we had a larger group (caryn, erica, kevin, yan, and 2 of yan’s friends) and we got *hellza* drunk. basically, none of us even spent more than 5 minutes this time watching any wrestling. pretty much the whole night was spent running around like crazy in the building, chasing each other, and throwing tortillas at each other. it was totally nuts! ya know how sometimes you can get drunk in just the perfect way, where you still have tons of energy, are in the best damn mood, and absolutely everything is just completely hilarious? well, this was totally one of those nights. just being complete freaks…

we also spent part of our time at a bar down the street. we ran into this wacky french guy who was came to the bar actually wearing a cape. i’m not really sure how this happened, but yan’s friend ended up convincing this guy to give her his pants, and the dude spent the rest of the night walking around the bar wearing boxers! (and no, the poor guy never got his pants back). somehow, in all the drunkedness, i ended up snapping away 115 photos, kevin ended up throwing coasters all over till he got yelled at by the bartender, and caryn got some capoera lessons.

Thought Gang

random quote i liked from the book i’m reading:

“There comes a stage with knowledge, like a city, where it becomes unmanageable, where it boils over… Word overflow. Shelves of neglected books pleading for readers. Shelves, shelves, and shelves. The forests are hiding in the buildings.” -Tibor Fischer

the weekend has landed

i hate trying to combine 4 days worth of weekend into one journal entry. i always end up either babbling on and on about what happened each day, and then feeling like i just wrote way to much crap, or i just rush through everything and then feel like i crammed 4 fun filled days into a journal entry that ends up shorter than a completely pointless entry about goats. whatever.

THURSDAY:

sharon got back from the east coast today. she was on an allstar tour of all the universities she got into for grad school. looks like she’s gonna end up moving to new york to attend cornell for the next 6 years. all the south africans are leaving california… *sigh*. anyways, a bunch of us went to popscene tonight. didn’t really dance much or anything, instead spent most of the night outside smoking cigarettes in the sprinkling rain while discussing life w/ sharon.

FRIDAY:

4.5 hours of sleep later i had to go to work cause the other engineer flaked on coming in. spent most of the day feeling out of it and shleepy. after that, caryn came over and the day finally got better. i’ve been kicking it w/ caryn pretty much every day of every weekend for the last several weeks and honestly, i just can’t seem to get enough of her. she is just too fucking cool. but anyways, so we went to cha cha chas on haight to have a super late dinner and a bunch of sangria. cha cha chas was damn delicious as always, and after a couple pitchers of sangria, we left the restaurant a bit tipsy… and went to go have mojitos and more drinks at hobson’s down the street. i dont know what it is about hobson’s, cause the bar’s not super exciting, not super hip, not flashy, really just a plain old bar…. and yet there’s something about the place that i really like and i always end up having a good time there. several drinks, cherry djarums, and vanilla djarums later, we ended up buying even more vodka at a liquor store on the way home….

SATURDAY:

5 hours of sleep later it is time to go to santa cruz. my brain is running on empty from lack of sleep and from alcohol consumption. but i’m pretty dedicated to going to santa cruz regardless. lately i’ve really been wanting to do more stuff. stuff that’s not the usual same old drinking at a bar or drinking at someone’s house or drinking at a party. i have a major urge to get out and do more interesting things, try new shit and what not. doesnt have to be anything totally revolutionary and exciting, just something that i havent done 1.9 million times before. so today, after a *bomb* lunch at saturn cafe (yummmm, chick parm), we went to natural bridges beach to check out tide pools. it was a lot of fun climbing around on the rock formations, searching for “little lives” under the puddles of water. it’s pretty cool to have these little mini underwater worlds at your fingertips. here are a few photos: click!

after the tidepools we went to the boardwalk and road the giant dipper rollercoaster. somehow i remember this rollercoaster not being very fun…. but it actually turned out to be really cool. we then also went to go check out the sea lions at the pier. all in all it was a hella fun filled day. it was really good to get out and go do something. that night was josh mitchell’s bday, but by this point i was so insanely drained and tired that i really couldnt do anything other than go home and sleep.

SUNDAY:

sunday during the day i went to sunkissed (a day party at central park that michael liu throws). to be honest, it was kinda weird. not really that many people i knew were there. 90% of the people there were 17 and under it seemed like. i dunno, i just wasn’t really feeling it too much somehow. i did get to see pete nice who i haven’t seen in a jillion years which was cool and also it was good to see michael liu who i havent seen in a really long time either. after a bit, i cut out to go try and buy some shoes. i’ve needed new shoes for sooooo long now. it’s ridiculous. the ones i wear are totally falling apart. unfortunately, i wasnt successful.

later sunday night i went w/ caryn, tash, and my brother to see Assemblage 23 play. i’ve never been to an industrial show before and i really really ended up feeling out of place. i think i was one of only like 3 people in the whole place who was wearing a colored shirt. everyone there was in all black and hella gothed out. also, some fuckhead kept fucking w/ me by tapping me on the shoulder while i wasnt looking. how immature is that?? finally i went up to him and made him stop acting like a dumbass. but regardless, i ended up having a really good time. the music was really really good. hard hitting industrial music just sounds *so* good when it’s loud as fuck.

sheeez… i really didnt mean to babble on and on this much about the weekend… but really, it was a pretty damn good weekend.

the goat saga continues…

driving home from work today i stopped by the hill with the goats again. this time other people had started noticing the goats too. in fact there was a line of cars parked on the side of the road, and all sorts of people were getting out and taking pictures of the goats etc. truly bizarre.

i was way curious about what the hell these goats were doing here, so i finally started asking people if they knew. so it turns out that these goats were brought here by the water department so that they could eat all the shrubbery etc off the hill and thus reduce the risk of fire. weird eh? is there really no easier way of reducing risk of fire than to let a hundred goats loose on the hill?

unfortunately, not everyone was in agreement w/ the water dept. i talked to this one lady who was really pissed and upset about the goats being there. she told me extensively about how she (and the sierra club) was so distraught that the goats were destroying the environment on the hill, how there is a species of butterfly native only to this area that was getting eaten by these goats, and how once the goats ate all the natural vegetation, tons of weeds would grow back in it’s place thus creating an even worse fire hazard. this lady was practically in tears when she told me all this. she was also yelling insults at the water dept worker that was there. the whole scene was really really weird. oh, and this kid that was with the water dept actually had a “goats-r-us” jacket on. whoa!

here are some photos. the first three are a bit blurry unfortunately…. Click!!

not again!

when i walked out to my car today, there was a huge dent in the rear bumper. some piece of shit hit my car while it was just sitting there innocently parked, and didnt bother to leave a note. the fucked up thing, is that this is the *2nd* time this has happened in this last month. my car is starting to look like crap because random haters keep hitting it. in the last 6 months, my car has been hit 3 times (one time the person actually left a note) and has gotten keyed 2 times. why can’t people learn to fucking drive?!!!

sf is invaded

yesterday morning i got a call from my roommate telling me to grab my camera cause we were gonna go on a field trip. huh? anyways, i grab the camera and we drive up 7th avenue a little past woodside road where she points to the left side of the road. the hill is all splotchy colored. wait a minute, the splotches are moving… um, the splotches are… goats???! so, i have no clue, how this happened, or where they could have come from, but the whole hillside is *covered* w/ goats. i’m guessing about 100 of them. now, this would have surprised me a lot less if this was in some huge field off of highway 280 or something, but *in the middle of SF*????
